Celebrate Bastille Day with French Fare

Cafe Henri calls itself a little taste of Paris in LIC and at this picturesque establishment, you can enjoy all the French café classics from escargot to coq au vin, crème brûlée to croissant pudding. Make it your spot for celebrating the French national day without leaving the neighborhood.

Live Music at a Local Classic
July 16th

The local music scene is a major draw when it comes to considering one of any Long Island City apartments for rent, and among neighborhood venues, LIC Bar is paramount. The quintessential local watering hole, LIC Bar boasts a 100-year history, a big backyard, and some of the best-crafted cocktails in the city, not to mention an always-noteworthy live music calendar. This month, we’re going to be sure to check out a promising performance by singer-songwriter Tom Shaner, who is known for his unique style that mixes ghost songs, waltzes, and rock and roll.

Take in Experimental Musical Stylings at the Noguchi Museum
July 17th

As part of the Noguchi Museum’s 12th annual “Bang on a Can” music series, interdisciplinary Brooklyn-based artist Eddy Kwon will perform excerpts from her violin composition UMMA-YA while Iva Casian-Lakos interprets works by American vocalist and composer Joan La Barbara. The event will take place in the museum courtyard.

Cool Off with a Snow Ice at Mango Mango
All summer

For foodies, perhaps the most compelling reason to consider Long Island City apartments for rent is the bevy of international dining options that line the local streets. Yes, that includes dessert! Case in point: Mango Mango, a beloved Hong Kong-inspired sweets shop. The shop, which opened in Chinatown in 2013 and which has a Long Island City outpost, is the spot to indulge your sweet tooth while cooling off with their signature snow ice heaped with Asian fruit toppings.

Artists Consider the Environment in an Evening with Flux Factory
July 23rd, 6pm-9pm

Flux Factory will host the second installation of its Creekworthy series along the waterfront at Hunters Point South Park. The series presents artists who educate about the history of water contamination through the lens of the local environment. This month, locals can look forward to artist Jocelyn Beausire‘s performing “SLOW/DEEP” in which the artist considers the relationship between architecture and the environment. The artist duo known as NYseaweed will also teach attendees about the importance of shellfish in cleaning waterways.

Poetry Meets Puppets at MoMA PS1
July 29th-30th

This summer artist collective Poncili Creación will enact its spellbinding performance No Gods Only Flowers in the MoMA PS1 courtyard over two days. Described as a “visual poem” the performance is enacted by larger-than-life puppets suspended from construction cranes from above the MoMA PS1 Courtyard. It promises to be a dazzling and brilliant experience and is free with reservations.

A newcomer to the LIC scene, the Summer Club opened earlier this spring, bringing a version of the daytime club experiences that Miami and Las Vegas are famous for to NYC. Located on the rooftop of the Ravel Hotel, the Summer Club is already drawing in world-class DJs. On July 30, Brody Jenner and Devin Lucien will be spinning for guests throughout the day.
