Melodic Jazz on a Sunday
August 7th, 5–7 p.m

Throughout the summer, the local arts center CultureLab LIC is spotlighting under-the-radar musical talents at its outdoor concert venue. Unwind on a Sunday evening with the musical stylings of the Remy Le Boeuf Quintet. Le Boeuf is a Grammy-nominated composer and jazz saxophonist whose compositions blend in elements of classical and even indie music. His work has been described by the New York Times as “evocative.” 

Enjoy NYC Restaurant Week at Levante

This summer marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of New York City Restaurant Week, the annual festival that offers discounted prix fixe menus from esteemed restaurants. Be sure to book a table at local Long Island City favorite Levante for lunch or dinner and indulge in Italian classics including Neopolitan-style pizza homemade meatballs and arancini. Summer Friday DJ Sets at MoMA PS1
Fridays throughout August, 5pm-9pm

Throughout August, MoMA PS1 is hosting DJ sets on Friday evenings, free with museum admission, with several up-and-coming musicians including Jenifa Mayanja, Venus X, and Slauson Malone. On these Summer Fridays, PS1 will remain open until 9 p.m., and visitors will have access to exhibitions. Currently on view is the first museum survey of photographer Deanna Lawson.

Watch New Cinematic Classics Under the Stars  
August 6th and August 27th at sunset

Skip the theater and head to the lawn at Hunters Point South for movie nights this summer; CinemaLIC will be screening hit films that are fun for all ages. We’ll be bringing our picnic blankets and getting the best spot in the house for August 6th’s screening of Skyfall (2012) starring Daniel Craig. A few weeks later, we’ll be back for 2021’s Ghostbusters Afterlife starring Paul Rudd, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray on August 27th—this critically acclaimed reboot of the 1984 original once again takes us on the hunt for spectral menaces around the Big Apple.   

Learn the Japanese Art of Shibori
August 27th, 11am-1pm

Spend a Saturday learning the Japanese craft of shibori dyeing in this two-hour workshop run by artist Sol Aramendi. Taking place at Socrates Sculpture Park, the class is hosted in collaboration with the Noguchi Museum and will explore the relationships between stone and water through the lens of the work of Japanese American artist Isamu Noguchi. Reservations are required and will open to the public on August 6th.

Scale to New Heights of the Urban Jungle

Even if you don’t have time to make it to the mountains this summer, let the heights come to you at the Cliffs, LIC’s local climbing gym. The Cliffs aim to be a supportive environment that allows busy New Yorkers to relax and most importantly smile as they explore climbing at all levels.  The Cliffs offers monthly memberships as well as day passes, and hosts one-time events for climbing aficionados to mingle.

Kick off your month with a grown-up summer treat of boozy gelato pop-ups on August 2nd on Gotham Point- South Tower terrace.  On August 3rd, residents can stop by for an information session for Lancaster Farm’s Summer CSA: the organic farmer’s co-op offers shares of farm-fresh produce, fruit, meat, eggs and cheeses, delivered weekly to your door. A Gotham Living can’t-miss event is our summertime Lobster Roll Feast from Redhook Lobster Pound along with drinks from Rockaway Brewing on August 18th. Close out the month on August 26th, with a champagne toast where residents can be introduced to Gotham’s full-service concierge team.
